The Aircraft
Carrier USS Oriskany
Pensacola, Florida's Newest Artificial Reef
Expedition 2006
July 24 -26, 2006
PAST TRIP REPORT
Divers from Divers
incorporated jumped at the chance to dive on an Aircraft Carrier. This trip was
fantastic and a full trip report will be posted soon. Day one was a
little rough with the weather on the gulf of Mexico keeping us from the Oriskany
since it was so far out off the coast. Not to be kept from a good
dive, we had an opportunity to dive some of the other wrecks of the area.
The second day the weather was perfect and we
had an opportunity to dive the Mighty Oriskany.
The Ship lies in 212 ft of water and comes within 69
feet of the surface . The flight deck is at 135ft and there is a ton of
stuff to see within recreational dive limits. We spent two dives on
this shipwreck and all of us agreed that you could do over 30 dives above the
flight deck and still not see all this shipwreck has to offer. We
are looking forward to diving this from year to year to see the changes that
will occur as this ship goes from shipwreck to reef.
