PADI Underwater Naturalist - Fresh Water  

This course is designed to be an introduction to the underwater aquatic fresh water environment and to help you develop safe and responsible interaction with aquatic life found in and around the Great Lakes and Inland lakes of Michigan.

Prerequisites

To qualify for the Underwater Naturalist Fresh Water Diver course, you must: 

  • Be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver, Junior Open Water Diver or have a qualifying certification from another training organization.

  • Be 10 years of age or older.

If an Underwater Naturalist Dive was conducted during the PADI Adventures in Diving program, it may be counted toward the certification requirements for this specialty at the discretion of the instructor conducting the specialty course.

 Course Overview

This course is an introduction to fresh water aquatic life including an overview of responsible human interactions with aquatic life found in the lakes, rivers and streams of Michigan. The minimum number of recommended hours is 12, with time being equally divided between knowledge development and actual water-training sessions.

 During then Underwater Naturalist course, you will learn the following:

  • The planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of diving in different fresh water aquatic environments.

  • A basic overview of major aquatic life groupings (kingdoms and phyla).

  • Factual information that dispels myths of fresh water aquatic life.

  • An overview of basic aquatic life interactions and associations.

  • Responsible human interactions with aquatic life.

  • Diving technique used to help preserve bottom dwelling aquatic life and minimize aquatic life disturbance.

Course Costs

The PADI Underwater Naturalist Diver - Fresh Water Specialty Certification from Divers Incorporated includes:

  • 8 hours of classroom lecture

  • Books, Fish ID charts,  Handouts and course materials

  • Two Certification Dives

  • Certification Processing and Administrative fees

This Course Costs $199 per person.
